720p, 1080p and 4K resolution guide

Screen resolution is the number of pixels that make up an image. More pixels can show more detail when the source supports it, but resolution alone does not determine picture quality.

720p (HD)

Usually 1280 × 720 pixels. It remains useful for smaller screens or connections with limited bandwidth.

1080p (Full HD)

A resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels, widely used for television, computers and online video. The “p” stands for progressive scan.

4K / Ultra HD

On consumer TVs, Ultra HD usually means 3840 × 2160 pixels. The cinema standard DCI 4K uses a different horizontal resolution. 4K TVs and content are now widely available.

Is resolution all that matters for IPTV?

No. Bitrate, codec, source quality, screen size and viewing distance also matter. A low-bitrate 4K stream may look worse than a well-encoded 1080p stream.

Practical advice: If your connection is unstable, a lower resolution may play more smoothly. With stable, sufficient bandwidth, choose the higher quality supported by your device and source.
